Community Visit to Ashraya Old Age Home: A Day of Reflection and Realization✨

As part of our BEd curriculum, we undertook a meaningful one-day community visit to Ashraya Old Age Home, Kalyapuram Kollam, on 18 November 2024. The visit aimed to foster social awareness and empathy, leaving an indelible impact on all participants.

We reached the institution at 10:00 AM, where we were warmly welcomed. The day began with a meeting session led by Jose Sir, the Director of Ashraya Foundation. He provided an insightful overview of the foundation’s mission and operations. As part of our contribution, we donated essential items such as lotion, soap, and brushes to support the residents.

Guided by Sarangi Chechy, a dedicated staff member, we visited the residents, engaging with each of them personally. These interactions were profoundly emotional, as their stories evoked a mix of sorrow and empathy. Despite their circumstances, the residents shared moments of joy with us, creating a unique bond.

During the visit, we sang group songs, sharing happiness with the residents and lightening the atmosphere. Afterward, we were served lunch, which the foundation had prepared for us.

In the afternoon, we performed group songs and dances, which brought visible joy to the residents. Their heartfelt smiles and words of gratitude were immensely rewarding. Before leaving, we clicked photographs to capture the memories of this special day.

This visit was a profound learning experience, offering valuable realizations about the importance of compassion and the significance of supporting the elderly. It not only enriched our understanding but also reminded us of the need to contribute to the well-being of others in society.❣️❣️
